For those of you who are waiting for September 1st so that you can receive your free annual credit report from the three major reporting agencies, your wait is over. Annualcreditreport.com is now active for VA/MD/DC residents and I assume the rest of the East Coast. Visit www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/alerts/freerepalrt.htm for confirmation that this is the correct site.
The reports are delivered online. You fill out your basic information at annualcreditreport.com, then it forwards you to each of the three credit agency sites. The initial sites will ask you to confirm some address or account information to verify your identity. Be prepared to print or create a PDF of the resulting report for safekeeping.
Skip the rush and get your report ahead of the September 1 opening for East Coast residents – www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/alerts/freerepalrt.htm.
Please note: There is a lot of press this week regarding pay sites which try to mask as the annualcreditreport.com site.
